Database-driven plant guide
Pet-Safe Plants for Low-Light Rooms
Looking for a houseplant for a lower-light room when you have cats or dogs creates two separate questions: can the plant tolerate the location, and what does the evidence say about pet toxicity?
This guide combines those questions using PawPlants' governed plant library. Every plant shown here is currently classified non-toxic to both cats and dogs and carries the PawPlants lower-light-tolerant discovery trait.
Lower-light tolerant does not mean no-light tolerant. A room still needs conditions appropriate for the individual plant, and changing light conditions can change growth and water use. Use each plant's full record for its identity and pet-safety scope, then reliable plant-specific care guidance for cultivation decisions.
How this population is governed
This list is derived from the current PawPlants governed plant database. Inclusion requires a published record, a current Non-toxic classification for both cats and dogs, and the exact governed Lower-light tolerant discovery trait. It is not a comprehensive list of every houseplant in existence.
Non-toxic does not mean risk-free or intended for ingestion. Chewing plant material can still cause irritation, choking or gastrointestinal upset. Use each linked plant record for the governed botanical identity and evidence scope.

Choose by the space you have
These groupings use only other traits already present in the same governed records. They are comparison aids, not rankings.
Why isn't every commonly recommended low-light plant here?
PawPlants does not add a plant to this guide because another website calls it low light or pet safe. Inclusion requires both current PawPlants non-toxic classifications and the governed lower-light trait. Plants outside that intersection are omitted rather than inferred into the list.
