Plant safety guide
Is Eucalyptus safe for pets?
Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp.) is listed here as a Toxic plant for dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds. Eucalyptus leaves, stems, and especially concentrated oils can irritate the digestive tract and may cause weakness or other signs.
Symptoms to watch for
- vomiting

- drooling
- weakness
Symptoms can vary by pet size, amount eaten, plant part, and individual sensitivity. When in doubt, use the emergency guidance rather than waiting.
What to do if your pet ate it
Remove the plant or dried stems, avoid essential oil exposure around pets, and call a veterinarian if your pet chewed eucalyptus or may have contacted concentrated oil.
For urgent concerns, call your veterinarian, ASPCA Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435, or Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661. Fees may apply.
